These devices operate in a similar manner to Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRBs) onboard vessels and Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELTs) onboard aircraft. When used correctly, and registered, a PLB helps to identify the owner and their location to the emergency services.
